OPENING CEREMONY 24

OPENING CEREMONY
MEDFEST 2024

MEDFEST aims to promote the sustainable management of Mediterranean biodiversity, which plays a crucial role in the functioning of all the ecosystems of the surrounding countries and is fundamental to life, with a direct impact on the well-being of the community and the individual.

Biological variety in all its forms, from microbes to plants and animals, up to the human species with its cultural diversity, exists in the Mediterranean, and particularly in Italy. This is an even more precious heritage, given that our country concentrates one of the most significant levels of biological diversity in all of Europe, with 60,000 animal species, 10,000 vascular plants, and over 130 ecosystems.

The biodiversity of the Mediterranean represents, depending on the taxonomic groups, from 4 to 25% of the global marine species diversity.
