L’ARTE

DI DIFENDERE IL MARE

“Casa dei Pesci” (The House of Fish) is an association formed by people passionate about the sea and nature, convinced of the importance of safeguarding and conserving our ecosystem for future generations.

Currently, we have approximately 60 members who voluntarily contribute to the association’s aims according to their abilities and availability.

The Association “Casa dei Pesci – ETS” was founded in 2012 as a non-profit organization (Onlus) with the aim of safeguarding the marine environment and promoting fish restocking, continuing the public interventions already started in 2007 by the Province of Grosseto to protect the seabed of the Maremma coast. The winning idea was to combine the concrete elements with more ecological marble blocks donated by the Michelangelo Quarries of Carrara, which were voluntarily sculpted by well-known Italian and foreign artists and positioned in the sea to safeguard the Posidonia seagrass and provide refuge for fish fauna.

From 2015 to 2023, 44 sculptures were placed on the seabed, creating a veritable underwater museum. The project, which started in Talamone, aims to expand to other areas of the Maremma coast, in order to spread, with new sculptures, the message about the importance of the seabed that Casa dei Pesci wants to convey to the public, and to create, with the placement of specially made blocks, new areas for fish restocking.

EMILY YOUNG

Direttore artistico “CASA DEI PESCI”

Emily Young works with stone that bears the marks and signs of it geological history. This piece of carving is called Young Guardian, or Bitter Guardian, as it carries my thoughts of the children of the future inheriting so much loss. The nobility of stone is inherent in the material itself, as a tiny piece of our magical mother planet, and can carry a powerful message for the future as well as serving a purpose here and now. This piece stands as an apology and a warning and a celebration of the planet.
